The thought of doing “circuits” makes me break out into a cold sweat! Why I hear you ask?
Let me tell you why! At a certain point in my life when I wanted to lose a few pounds or a few stone I thought I’d do circuits.
My memory is of me running around with 50 other people (yes 50 – I think I found the biggest circuits club in Telford!) trying to keep up with people who were obviously much slimmer, fitter and faster than me!
Whilst I (with dodgy knees from too much sport in the past!) and a little overweight tried to get up and down elegantly without looking a sweaty mess! I failed! And it wasn’t the confidence booster I’d hoped for.
So when Stuart Henderson (my personal trainer from Ideal Fitness) told my fitness buddy and I that we were doing circuits during our semi personal training session I may have turned white.
But to see just three circuit stations and a room with just myself, Jo and Stuart was a relief!
And as it was weigh in and measure week we only had 40 minutes – surely it couldn’t be that bad! One large, thick heavy rope, a step, a kettlebell and a mat – easy!
Forty minutes later I did not agree – my arms were burning from the lifting and snapping of that rope, my shoulders throbbing from the press ups on the step and my thighs were certainly having a grumble from the lunges.
But did I enjoy it – of course I did. No pain no gain and I know if I want to reach my goal by November then I need to step up the fitness levels each week.
Come on I know I can do – and I know Stuart won’t let me fail!
